about ashley bargent

I understand transition because I’ve lived through it.

My path here was not a straight line. It included a change in direction, two experiences with burnout and the process of learning to work with my neurodivergence instead of against it.

From Misaligned to a Career That Finally Fits
I Learned to Work With My Brain, Not Against It

Today, I bring those experiences together with my training as a Registered Social Worker and Associate Certified Coach to help others find a way forward that feels right for them.

Sometimes the unexpected path is the better one.

In high school, I dreamed of becoming a therapist, but somehow diverted from that dream along the way. I studied psychology, then went to graduate school for social work. Early on, I discovered my own neurodivergence as a gifted and highly sensitive person. It took much longer to truly grasp the impact of this on my life.

Burnout changed the direction of my career.

I spent many years working in nonprofit case management, first in mental health and later supporting seniors and caregivers. The work was meaningful, but increasing demands, limited resources and the realities of the sector eventually took their toll.

‍

Because of my firsthand experience with burnout, I understand how daunting it can feel when a career you have invested so much of yourself in no longer feels sustainable. I also know that burnout can become a turning point, even if it does not feel that way while you are in it.

One question opened an entirely new door.

During my own career transition, I worked with a coach for the first time. The experience helped me see my strengths, values and possibilities more clearly. It also made me wonder, “Could I do this too?”
‍

That question led me to become a certified coach. When people began asking whether I also offered counselling, I retrained in counselling and began to offer that service as well. This allows us to choose the kind of support that best fits where you are and what you need.

The right support should work with your brain.

At first, I specialized in career transitions and burnout. Along the way, ADHD and neurodivergence became another important focus of my work. I completed specialized training and earned my ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider designation, combining professional knowledge with my own lived experience of neurodivergence.

‍

I know what it’s like to feel “different” and only later discover you’re not the only one and there’s a reason you are this way. Together, we can better understand how your mind works, capitalize on your strengths and create approaches that fit your life.

Professional knowledge, lived understanding and a human approach.

I bring a Masters of Social Work, professional coaching certification and specialized ADHD training into every session. I also bring firsthand experience with burnout, career change and neurodivergence.

‍

I won’t give advice or tell you which path to take. Instead, we’ll create a collaborative space where we can figure out the answers together. I will bring warmth, curiosity and thoughtful questions to help you explore different options based on who you are and what matters to you.

Coaching vs Counselling

Coaching or counselling?
Here's the difference.

Counselling helps us understand how your past has shaped you. Coaching is more focused on solutions and the future you want to create. It also places more emphasis on taking action between sessions. A counsellor can take more of an expert role, whereas a coach serves as a partner. In coaching, clients are seen as the experts on their own lives and clients set the agenda for each session.

Neither is better; they simply serve different needs. A third option is solution-focused counselling. Because this is what coaching is primarily based on, it can feel like the best of both worlds.
